HKHS ERC Opening 2005.7.21

Elderly Record Stored in Smart Card for Analysis

The Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) sets up the first "Elderly Resources Centre" (ERC) in Hong Kong. The opening ceremony held today was officiated by HKHS Chairman Mr David C Lee, Chairman of the Elderly Commission the Hon Tam Yiu-chung, Deputy Secretary for Health, Welfare & Food (Elderly Services & Social Security) Ms Salina Yan and Chairperson of the Hong Kong Occupational Therapy Association Mr Chan Yan-chi.

Located at Prosperous Garden in Yau Ma Tei, the ERC aims to provide the elderly with comprehensive and integrated home services. Through education, assessment of physical being and home risks, consultation and research, the elderly would be able to realise the change of their physical being with age and the potential hazards at home so that home accidents could be reduced and healthy living can be enjoyed.

The ERC will be operated by experienced occupational therapists and social workers. It is equipped with new and advanced interactive assessment facilities using Smart Card for Visitor Testing Data to help the elderly understand the conditions of various aspects of their health such as hearing, eyesight, memory, response and bodily balance.
